Warbirds over Awatoto |
Albert and I headed off to watch Model Flying Hawkes Bay's annual event Warbirds over Awatoto.
With members from our club Grant & Emma Plistead, Carl Hansen, Andreas Gabler, Sven Willians & Steve & Kyal Sharpe to enjoy a great weekend.
On arrival, we set up the Hangar One shop and our campers, as most of us stayed at the MFHB flying field.
Saturday was the first day with outstanding weather conditions and lots of exceptional flying was to be observed with displays of World War 1 & 2 aircraft, Jets and Heli. Albert and I set off to attend Model Flying Hawke's Bay's annual event, Warbirds over Awatoto. Several members from our club joined us, including Grant and Emma Plistead, Carl Hansen, Andreas Gabler, Sven Williams, and Steve and Kyal Sharpe, making for a great weekend together.
Upon our arrival, we set up the Hangar One shop and our campers, as most of us chose to stay at the MFHB flying field.
Saturday marked the first day of the event, and we were greeted with outstanding weather conditions. We witnessed exceptional flying displays featuring World War I and II aircraft, jets, and helicopters, and some impressive new models were showcased in the air.
Some great new models were on display and flying the skies.

Seasons Greetings from the Tauranga Model Aircraft Club..... The Christmas and the New Year holiday is well and truly over and it is back to work for some of us. Hopefully, you have had the opportunity to assemble and fly your latest model aircraft acquisition although many of us will have struggled with the weather! You possibly found yourself working on some winter projects instead of flying. That probably means that you will need to make room in your home "hangar" by disposing of one or more of your older but much-loved flying items. The Tauranga Model Aircraft Auction is the ideal place to do that. The auction is also a great place to pick up your next project at prices that can often only be described as "a steal".
Last year's auction was a great success with one of the biggest turnovers of models and paraphernalia that we have ever seen. So the Tauranga Model Aircraft Club Auction is back again this year as we attempt to equal that record. It is an annual event and our auctioneer this year once again is Tony Christiansen who is well known in the modelling community. Our auction attracts model flyers from all around the country and is a great social gathering as well as a place to buy and sell.
This year the auction will be held at the Classic Flyers Museum venue, Mt Maunganui at a slightly earlier date of Sunday 25th May.
MFNZ is replacing the physical membership cards with a new digital system. The goal of the change is to lower costs and the amount of administrative work needed to distribute the cards. We’ll also be able to deliver cards and updates in a much more timely manner! You will have the option of a membership card on your smartphone or a card that can be printed out on paper. As we change to this system you’ll receive two emails. The first will be for those who want to install a digital card on your Android or Apple phone. It will only need to be installed once and then all details can be updated remotely. The second email is for those who want a paper card. The email will have an attachment with a PDF file. The PDF will be an A4 page containing your membership card cutout. Members can print this out / store the email etc and present this when requested. Click here to view a sample PDF card from Friday morning everyone will be emailed an invite for the digital card. The email invite to the digital card will only be sent once. Those that lose / can’t find the email can email/text me a request to resend the email. The PDF email will be sent every time information on the card is updated. So the minimum is the PDF will be sent to everyone once a year to each member!RegardsPaul CleggAdministrator, Model Flying NZemail: admin@mfnz.orgphone: 021 986 566
